The San Bernardino County Probation Department conducted a Juvenile Warrant Operation on Thursday, November 8, 2018. The purpose of this county-wide operation was to make contact with youth who failed to appear in court or absconded from probation supervision, which resulted in a warrant being issued for their arrest.
“The goal of this operation is to ensure community safety by exercising due diligence to resolve outstanding juvenile warrants,” said Deputy Chief Ed Barry during briefing.
Thirteen teams were deployed to the High Desert, Central and West End regions. A total of 84 warrant services were attempted, resulting in eight juvenile arrests. In addition, five subsequent adult arrests were made for arrest warrants and a new law violation.
During the operation, officers made contact with a juvenile who had an active warrant. However, they confirmed the juvenile had made significant improvement overall. As a result, the officers transported the juvenile to court to address the warrant, avoiding arrest.
“These operations help ensure and promote juvenile offender compliance, resulting in the ability to provide rehabilitative services, enforce court orders and bring safety to the community,” said Chief Probation Officer Michelle Scray Brown.
