Laid back and dressed in his flannel shirt and denim jeans, singer-songwriter Keaton Simons performed at the Joyce Martin Education Center in San Bernardino during a benefit concert for the Human Society of San Bernardino Valley (HSSBV) on Friday evening, Oct. 11. With an intimate setting of candlelit round tables, an open bar, and sounds of his acoustic musical repertoire, Simons grabbed attendees’ attention with songs about love and the blues.
Simons sang songs from his second album “Beautiful Pain,” which debuted in April, and explained that the single “Beautiful Pain” was one he co-wrote with his friend, singer-songwriter Jason Mraz. The single has been featured on the Ellen DeGeneres talk show.
Taking breaks between jamming on his guitar, Simons explained, “I think animals are just as important as humans and I am grateful to be a part of something like this to help raise money for the Humane Society of San Bernardino Valley.”
Simons headlined the show after he was invited by friends and fans to perform. He shared he’s performed benefit concerts in the past. “I’m happy to participate in something I believe in,” he said.
Simons himself owns a St. Bernard named Bentley, and at 155 pounds, Simons described her as “gigantic.”
Additionally, he shared he was glad to participate in an event where he knew his music would touch others in some way.
“It’s great to do something like this, because the people who invited me to do this concert really appreciate the cause and they appreciate my music. Something I always go for at a concert is that feeling of real connectedness. I think when there is any exchange between a performer and an audience, there’s potential for a real impact and growth.”
Kelly Anderson, a guest at the show, said, “I am glad to have come and see this performance and also enjoy Keaton Simons’ music. It is also a great thing that he has come out to San Bernardino to help out HSSBV.”
Jill A. Henderson, HSSBV’s Development and Community Outreach Coordinator, said, “Keaton Simons is a great performer and we here at the Humane Society of San Bernardino are honored to have him perform for us, representing a great cause.”
All proceeds from the Friday night show went to benefit the Humane Society of San Bernardino Valley.
