Dr. Gloria Fisher, interim President of San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC), has announced some new additions to the faculty and staff at the college, effective with the spring semester.
The college has been working on adding key faculty and other personnel to better serve its growing student population, now at around 12,000 and expected to grow another 2 to 3% this year.
In May 2013 the community college district’s board of trustees appointed Fisher as interim President of SBVC, and she has worked closely with the College Council to make several interim positions permanent and add several faculty and staff.
Effective with the spring term now underway, SBVC welcomes Davena Burns-Peters as an instructor in American Sign Language; Jamie Herrera and Felipe Salazar as counseling faculty; and Kenneth Lawler as a temporary instructor in physical education and assistant football coach.
New classified staff includes Daniel Canes, interim tool room supervisor; Rania Handy, coordinator of professional and organizational development; Phuong Nguyen, tool room supervisor; Patricia Reyes, Clerical Assistant I in the Child Development Department; and Laurie Sullivan, interpreting services specialist.
New administrators are Dr. Ricky Shabazz, Vice President of Student Services; Dr. Henry Hua, Dean of Math, Business, and Computer Technology; Marc Donnhauser, Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) Science-Technology-Engineering-Math (STEM) “Pass Go” Project Director; and Albert Maniaol, Interim Dean of Applied Technology.
With the appointment of Dr. Shabazz, who came in from El Camino College where he served as Dean of Student Services for the college’s Compton Center, SBVC’s senior administrative team now has permanent appointments in three of its four vice presidential positions. Dr. James Smith, Vice President of Research, Planning & Institutional Effectiveness, and Dr. Haragewen Kinde, Vice President of Instruction, assumed their permanent positions at the beginning of the fall term 2013. Scott Stark continues as interim Vice President of Administrative Services.
The new personnel were introduced at the college’s Spring Term Kick-Off event in January of this year.
