Forty students from the San Bernardino, Inyo and Mono region received gold medals following the 36th annual Inland Science and Engineering Fair on April 4. The students from the three-county region were among 373 projects from approximately 450 students in San Bernardino, Inyo and Mono counties that competed at the event. Summit High School in the Fontana Unified School District hosted the award ceremony. The gold-medal recipients were in three categories: Elementary, Junior and Senior divisions. Only the Junior and Senior projects advance to California State Science Fair, which will be held in Los Angeles in May. Three San Bernardino County students won Sweepstakes Awards for the outstanding project in their respective divisions. The Sweepstakes winners were: Aislyn Trujillo and Julianna Chan of Mesquite Trails Elementary in the Hesperia Unified School District (Elementary Division); Ellery McQuilkin of Lee Vining Elementary in Eastern Sierra Unified (Junior Division); and Leonardo Park of Chino Hills High in Chino Valley Unified. Individual and group projects were judged in 23 categories of science - from microbiology to zoology, math and physics to electronics, and consumer sciences to earth sciences. The regional fair is sponsored by the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools, Inyo County Office of Education, Mono County Superintendent of Schools and Professional Engineers of California Government.  2018 San Bernardino County Elementary, Junior, Senior Divisions Gold Medalists:   Colton Joint Unified Itzel Cortes, Grand Terrace Elementary Emma Ponce, Grand Terrace Elementary Alexa Rodrigues, Ruth Grimes Elementary Ethan Wheeler, Grand Terrace Elementary     Redlands Unified Michael Dahlgren, Moore Middle Laura Noronha, Redlands High Rosemary Ventura, Moore Middle San Bernardino City Unified Carlos Ayala, Curtis Middle Cristian Hernandez, Curtis Middle Damian Lopez, Curtis Middle Kayleen Sanchez, Marshall Elementary
