First 5 San Bernardino joined the national campaign “Read for the Record” with Jumpstart on Thursday, Oct. 3, registering 10,000 participants across the county of San Bernardino and donating a total of 100 books. Libraries and preschool classes hosted reading sessions of this year’s featured book “Otis” by Loren Long, coupled with learning discussions and activities surrounding the book’s theme.
Jumpstart’s Read for the Record is an annual reading celebration that highlights the need for quality early education in America by mobilizing adults and children to set a record for the largest shared reading experience.
Since the campaign’s inception in 2006, more than nine million people have joined local Jumpstart’s Read for the Record reading celebrations. First 5 San Bernardino has locally sponsored participation in the event since 2008.
