Cal State San Bernardino recently held a Transfer Day, for those interested in transferring to the college. Michael Harrison and Lucia Zarate coordinated the event. An array of resources and workshops were provided; the students were able to meet the faculty from their intended college major. Help was provided for the fall 2014 transfer students and future applicants during the application process including: a financial aid workshop, student panels, information on housing and residential life, how to apply online, and upcoming campus tours.
With the rise in tuition many students are opting to attend community college and then transfer to a four-year institute once they have completed their general education. Michael Harrison, co-coordinator of the event, wanted the event “to increase awareness as much as possible about the transfer process.” Parents and students unaware of this second option were guided through the various steps during the available workshops.
The transfer process allows a student to receive credits for courses at a community college and transfer to their desired school. In doing so, the student is required to pay less for the first two years of their college education, decreasing their overall education cost.
