International award-winning astronomer Kevin Manning will be appearing at the San Bernardino Public Library as part of his Star Tour USA 2014. This presentation will be held at the Feldheym Central Library’s Bing Wong Auditorium on Monday, May 19 at 4 p.m. at 555 W. Sixth Street, San Bernardino. “Astronomy for Everyone: Size & Scale of the Universe” is a family program designed to teach participants about the universe from the very small to the very large. The size and scale of the universe, the stars, and other celestial wonders will be discussed using hands-on activities and assorted visuals. Manning is a gifted astronomer, having worked as a consultant with NASA, the Chandra X-Ray Observatory launched on the space shuttle with the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and other ground-based observatories. Manning won national and international awards in his field, was both a Wright Fellow and an Einstein Fellow and did some work with Brookhaven National Laboratory. Besides the numerous workshops he's presented over the years at libraries, observatories and science centers, he has also spoken at Tufts University, State University of New York at Stony Brook, the National Science Teachers Association's National Convention, American Association for the Advancement of Science Breakfast with Scientists and the National Parks Service. Manning founded Look Up to the Stars with a mission to generate interest and foster scientific literacy in the general public nationwide through the delivery of awe-inspiring, educational and entertaining programs.
