Photo Description:

Shiela Pree Bright's exhibit "Plastic Bodies" will open as Women's History Month draws to a close. The artist chose Mattel's Barbie with her classic blue eyeshadow and blonde bombshell coif to picture with her exhibit.

The exhibition presents Sheila Pree Bright's compelling "Plastic Bodies" series from 2003, which critiques society's restrictive definitions of beauty and the harmful impact on individual self-perception. Through her pioneering collection of photographs, Bright uncovers the deep-seated emotions and vulnerability of those feeling pressured to align with unattainable beauty ideals. Commencing this project in 2003, Bright's work prophetically addresses themes of body image and societal pressure, topics that have gained renewed attention with the recent release of the "Barbie" film. Although Bright's photographic series and Greta Gerwig's cinematic interpretation diverge in their approach, both contribute to the ongoing conversation about the consequences of stringent beauty standards. When:  March 23 - September 8, 2024 Where: Riverside Art Museum 3425 Mission Inn Avenue, Riverside, CA 92501 For more information, please visit https://riversideartmuseum.org/exhibits/sheila-pree-bright-plastic-bodies/
