In recognition of Veterans Day, Amazon delivered a special surprise to Habitat for Humanity Riverside – $30,000 to support the construction of four new homes, two of which will be for new veteran homeowners.
"Amazon is proud to give back to the communities where our employees live and work, and we're honored to be able to support Habitat for Humanity Riverside’s belief that everyone deserves to have a safe, decent, and affordable place to live," said Marianna Desai, General Manager, Amazon Fulfillment. "We hope our donation goes a long way in helping current and future veteran families build a better future."
Last week, in addition to the donation, Amazon associates volunteered at the build site by painting and installing flooring in two of the homes.
Amazon invests heavily in making the company a great place to work for veterans through professional development tools, skills training opportunities, and dedicated programs to military veterans and their spouses. In 2016, Amazon pledged to hire 25,000 veterans and military spouses by 2021 and has focused on placing veterans and military spouses in meaningful careers across the company. There are now more than 40,000 veterans and military spouses working across the company.
“Amazon is an incredible supporter of Habitat for Humanity Riverside. Their generous gift of $30,000 will make an impact in providing a safe place for families to grow and thrive,” said Matt Friedlander, Habitat for Humanity Riverside’s Director of Resource Development & Marketing. “They understand the needs of veteran families experiencing sub-standard housing and want to make a difference in their lives. Because they value and support our veterans as much as we do, Amazon is a great community friend and partner to our organization.”
In addition to this project, Habitat for Humanity Riverside will soon be building a community of 26 single-family homes in partnership with the California Department of Veterans Affairs, the Economic Development Agency of Riverside County, and the City of Jurupa Valley dedicated to veterans, active duty, and families of the fallen.
Habitat for Humanity Riverside is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization. Habitat for Humanity Riverside is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Habitat for Humanity Riverside was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all.
