Cal State San Bernardino Eta Sigma Gamma National Health Education Honorary Society and students of Health Science 404: Women’s Health will present the second annual Run Like a Mother 5K on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 8-11 a.m. in the university’s Lower Commons Patio.

The 5K is to raise money and awareness for the Time for Change and Soul Food for Your Baby. Both are local nonprofit community organizations dedicated to improving the lives of women and children by providing resources, programs and services. Last year, nearly 200 attendees, including CSUSB students, staff, faculty and community members, participated in the event.

“The Annual CSUSB Run Like a Mother 5K is public health in action,” said Angie Verissimo, faculty coordinator of the 5K and CSUSB assistant professor in the health science and human ecology department. “It is a prime example of bringing community members and our CSUSB community together all while raising consciousness on the pressing concerns that our communities face and celebrating those community organizations that strive to address these concerns.”

She credits the students’ dedication to the groundwork of the event. “Our students work incredibly hard to plan and implement this event, and their work is evident in the large turnout,” said Verissimo.

Tickets are $10 for the first 100 participants and $15 for the remaining participants. Check in begins at 7 a.m. and the race will begin promptly at 8 a.m.

Complimentary parking will be available in parking lot D.
