In observance of National Library Week April 13-19, patrons are encouraged to visit one or more of the San Bernardino Public Libraries, either in person or virtually, as SBPL offers various information resources to its library cardholders via the library web page at www.sbpl.org. These information databases aren’t available on the general Internet. One of the library’s most popular resources is eBooks and audio books offered by Overdrive. The Overdrive subscription and new monthly content is provided by the San Bernardino City Library Foundation. “We greatly appreciate the considerable generosity of our Library Foundation in continuing our Overdrive subscription and providing new content on a monthly basis to our library cardholders during these times of economic challenges for our city,” said SBPL Acting Library Director Ed Erjavek. “We’re very pleased to offer this service to our patrons and especially encourage them to take advantage of our services in person or virtually during National Library Week.” Other available information databases: Brainfuse offers homework help including online tutors daily from 1:00–10:00 P.M. PST for grades K-12, college students, and adult education. SAT/GED test help and a writing lab are available. Online information is available any time. The General Reference Center offers mostly full-text articles from popular magazines. Opposing Viewpoints in Context offers full-text articles of both sides of controversial issues like gun control and capital punishment. It is a one-stop source for information on today's hottest social issues. LearningExpressLibrary offers sample online tests including the GED, SAT and ASVAB and other civil service employment-related exams along with some electronic career books. ReferenceUSA offers a business module that includes company information that is of interest to job seekers, those doing marketing and others, and a residential phone directory. Want to learn Spanish, French, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, German, Mandarin Chinese, Greek, Italian or another language? Then try the Mango Language Learning database. With Job Scout users can work to gain the necessary computer skills to look for a job in today’s job market. A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.
