Nearly 50 streets in San Bernardino are going to receive some tender love and care. Public works will begin resurfacing 47 street segments using budgeted Measure I funds, a half-cent sales tax collected for transportation improvements throughout the county. Work will also include removal and replacement of deteriorated segments of some concrete curbs, gutters and cross gutters, as well as construction of new curb access ramps at locations identified in the street segments, a release from the city states. Contractor Matich Corporation has been hired by the city to perform the work. General work will begin with minor concrete removal and replacement, followed by asphalt surface removal and repaving, according to the release. The current project schedule shows construction beginning this month and continuing through the summer, with work on the street segments occurring over a three- to six-week period, according to city officials. Residents and business owners will receive a minimum of 48 hours notice before major paving operations begin on each street segment and the city's field inspector will be available during construction to provide additional information on the reconstruction work and the contractor's operations. Questions regarding design may be directed to the project's principal engineer, Ted Rigoni, at 909-384-5198 or rigoni_te@sbcity.org. Questions regarding construction may be directed to construction manager Jeff Schafer at 909-322-5740 or schafer_je@sbcity.org.
