Free Water Conservation Program

The Inland Empire Resource Conservation District (IERCD) is a local public agency headquartered in the City of Redlands but serves almost 1,200 square miles of southwestern San Bernardino and northwestern Riverside counties. Their mission is to perform the preservation, restoration, and education/outreach work required for continued habitat functionality in their service area. Tasks performed in cooperation with their mission include preservation of open space, rehabilitation of degraded wildlands, and facilitation of public education opportunities on conservation-themed topics including water use efficiency, the importance/methods for incorporation of native plants, and methods for reducing stormwater pollution. Recently, IERCD has teamed up with partner agency the San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District, a local water provider working to improve water conservation awareness among its residents. Together with SBVMWD, they will speak at the A.K. Smiley Library. This program will feature an interactive presentation on water usage in the local area, threats to our current system, water use efficiency in and outside your home, and lastly native plant incorporation into landscaping. At the end of the presentation there will be a raffle for attendees featuring free native plants and plenty of informative take-home handouts. Come hear the author speak about his work at the A.K. Smiley Library on Tuesday, June 10, at 2 p.m.

A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.
