San Bernardino Valley College Head Athletic Trainer Mike Sol, will be on hand for the prestigious Five-Star Basketball Camp at Cal Lutheran University from June 15 through 18 and June 19 through 22. Sola, a 33-year veteran at San Bernardino Valley College, has participated in the camp twice before, in 2012 and 2013, and is looking forward to representing SBVC. “This is such a fun event, with so much basketball experience around you, with the coaches and some professional players; you can’t help but learn some of the fantastic nuances of the game.” Campers and support staff are also provided with a state-of-the-art facility, a brand new dining hall and a dorm room. “It’s truly a first-class operation,” he added. Coaches teach campers, boys ages 9 through 18, life lessons and sometimes a former participant of the camp stops by to impart their wisdom. The FiveStarBasketball.com website has a big list of former participants which reads like a “who’s who” of professional and collegiate basketball. The price for overnight campers is $625, which includes a performance shirt, Gatorade, Prime and Recover products throughout camp. The camp runs from 4 to 10 p.m.; 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.; 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and 9 a.m. to noon. Each overnight camper receives a total of eight meals. Five-Star also provides a commuter option for $550. The camp features the Annual Orange-White All-Star Classic on the last full day and each camper receives 25 hours of basketball training. Sola said his responsibilities include, “making sure that the hydration is set up with water and camp sponsor Gatorade, along with taping and a first responder to any injury.” He will also have an opportunity to speak to the camp participants about injury prevention and care, such as proper icing and heating techniques. Five-Star also offers all junior and high schools and AAU programs with a special group offer to join them at camp. For every 5-to-10 players will receive $25 off the base price. Ten to 5 players will be $50 off and 15 plus is negotiable. For the two camps at California Lutheran, all arrangements must be finalized by June 12 by contacting Coach Vern Vegso at 760-200-7414.
