The Norman F. Feldheym Central Library in San Bernardino hosted the ‘Writer Wannabes’ group Sat. Sept. 13 in the Mary Belle Kellogg room. The group is open to all writer enthusiasts, beginning and experienced. Writers of all genres including fiction, non-fiction, memoir and poetry attended the group. The first writer wannabees meeting welcomed twenty-five local writers. The Sept. 13, meeting saw about fifteen local writers, all varying in experience and genre types. Beth Winokur, a San Bernardino writer and artist lead the meeting said, “We want to bring local publishers and writers together to give them a place to get some work done and network with each other. We hope to have guest speakers such as publishers things like that, to attend and give information to our writers, “We’ve needed this in San Bernardino for a while,” Winokur said. The group of writers was asked to introduce themselves with two-minute introductions. Some writers had professional publication experience, while others were hobbyists in hopes of future publication. After introductions, writers that brought some of their work read their pieces to the group for feedback. Works varied from autobiographical memoir to children’s books. The group then discussed publication options, copywriting, and offered each other advice. New writers received guidance from more experienced writers, while others discussed future and in-progress projects with one another. The group meets every third Saturday of the month from 3-5 p.m., in the Kellogg A Room at the Norman F. Feldheym Central Library. Writers are urged to bring in drafts of work to share with the group. The next Writers Wannabes group is set for Oct. 18. The Norman F. Feldheym Central library is located at 555 West 6th Street in San Bernardino.
