The second event in Cal State San Bernardino's inaugural Distinguished Artist Series was presented Tuesday, featuring Hollywood film and TV composer, producer and pianist Patrick Morganelli. Tuesday's free and public event was the second in a year-long, three-part educational concert series curated and directed by Dr. Jocelyn Hua-Chen Chang, the executive director of the series, and piano faculty and director of the CSUSB music department’s keyboard studies program. The program aims to engage with Southern California communities to foster an informed appreciation for musical arts. In the discussion portion of the event, Morganelli, whose commissioned works will be performed by the Los Angeles Opera this year, discussed topics including issues and trends in the film and television music industry. Following a brief intermission, Morganelli also engaged attendees in a Q&A forum and discussion where he discussed what to prepare for and expect in the film and television music industry. His work has appeared in several films and television features and Morganelli was the assistant orchestrator in the award-winning TV series "Lost." His compositions have also been featured in films including "The Haunting of Pearson Place," "Our Last Supper" and "College Park." The third and final event in this series is "Beethoven Piano Sonatas: Decisions Facing the Performer & the Teacher," featuring pianist and famed pedagogue Dr. Stewart Gordon. This event will be held May 17 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the CSUSB Recital Hall, Performing Arts Building, located at 5500 University Parkway in San Bernardino. The free event requires RSVP. For more information, please visit www.DistinguishedArtistsSeries.org or contact Michael Shaw, vice president of Finance and Operations, via email at DistinguishedArtistsSeries@gmail.com or by phone at 626-826-6605.

A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.
