San Bernardino police took a man into custody after he attempted to rob a bank Tuesday morning.
Daniel DeMello, 47, made claims he staged the robbery in an attempt to return to jail, according to a release issued by the San Bernardino Police Department.
Just before 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 21, DeMello entered the Wells Fargo Bank located at 334 W. 3rd Street, where he approached a teller and passed a note demanding money. DeMello then told the teller he would wait outside for the money. Responding officers took the suspect into custody and discovered he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
Police say the bank suffered no loss and no employees were injured as a result of the incident.
DeMello was booked at the West Valley Detention Center.
