Summer is here and that means that the San Bernardino Farmers Fair and Market Night will be running every Tuesday from May 7 through October 29.
The market night serves as a family-friendly and free community gathering filled with locally grown produce, freshly prepared food, a schedule of special events and exhibits, and no shortage of entertainment each week this summer.
The event is hosted by the Patrons of the Perris Hill Bowl, which is dedicated to supporting the Junior University, who put together an entire theatrical play for the community during the summer. The play that they have decided to perform this year, however, has yet to be revealed.
Residents of San Bernardino are encouraged to bring their families to enjoy the fun and take advantage of the products for sale at the event.
Teresa Craig, Marketing Manager of the event, placed emphasis on the produce offered at the event. “People should know that all the produce here is local and organically grown,” she said.
The event has been running for 10 years now on every Tuesday during the summer.
On any given week, around 25–30 local vendors from the surrounding area come out for the evening. Fresh produce, community-driven organizations, church and youth groups, dining options, clothing stands and products like scented wax burners are present during the market night.
Inland Empire Pride was one of the organizations present at the event and was welcoming visitors into their booth, where information was shared pertaining to the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transsexual) communities in the area and events that will be hosted for their causes.
PJ Seleska, Executive Director of Inland Empire Pride, said, “[This event] is all about community partnerships and working together. We try to do that here and spread it around anywhere we can.”
Inland Empire Pride handed out key chains that give discounts to businesses in support of the LGBT cause to supporters all across the community.
Fabiola Delgado was also there selling local, all-natural, and raw honey. Delgado had around three different types of honey available for sale from different areas, including wildflower honey from the mountains and alfalfa honey gathered from fields.
Vince Carter, resident, enjoys the atmosphere of the market night with his wife Irene Carter and their children. Carter stated, “It’s great to get out, see friends, and get some food.”
Along with many booths, live entertainment was also performed throughout the night by a local group of musicians who gave both solo and group performances. There are over 30 members in their group.
The event will continue to be held every Tuesday on Highland Avenue near the corner of Highland and Waterman Avenues.
