San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) Men’s Soccer midfielder Kevin Real (Riverside La Sierra), defender Marco Arias (Riverside La Sierra), and forward Alfredo Palacios (Norco H.S.) have signed letters of intent with the University of Maine at Machias. In 2012, Real was also named second team All-Foothill Conference last season, finishing fourth in Conference with 19 total shots on the year. In 2011, Arias helped anchor the stifling SBVC defense, helping Conference Most Valuable Player, sophomore goalkeeper Daniel Angulo (Moreno Valley Canyon Springs), become the best overall goalkeeper in the conference and with a 0.45 goals against average. In 2011, Palacios had a stellar year at forward, ending the season tied for fifth on the team in goals scored (4), tied for third in shots taken (20), and third in points scored (12), along with finishing second in assists (4). Under the tutelage of seventh-year coach Josh Brown, SBVC Men’s Soccer team ended the 2012 regular season having won eight games, on their way to their first-ever back-to-back playoffs berth. Coach Brown had nine players named to the All-Conference team, finishing the season with an overall record of 8–9–5 and a 3–3–2 Foothill Conference record. Entering the playoffs, fourteenth-seeded SBVC visited the third-seeded Walnut Mt. San Antonio Mounties (18–3–1; 12–3–1) in the first round of the Southern California Regional’s. SBVC fell to the four-time state champion Mounties, 4–0. The University of Maine at Machias Clippers play at Clippers Soccer Field, and the team is coached by second year coach Daniel Mariscal. In the 2012 season the Clippers were the regular season Yankee Small College Conference–East Division champions going 16–5 overall and 12–1 in conference play, finishing their season losing in the first round of the playoffs to University of Maine at Fort Kent. University of Maine at Machias competes in the Yankee Small College Conference–East Division within the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.
