Voice of the People: Obama Power Plant Regulations

Power plants, such as Southern California Edison’s Mountain View plant, are responsible for most of California's Green house gas emissions even if Edison says it has some of the more efficient gas plants. These so called “efficient” plants are linked to climate change and dirty air. This pollution threatens our climate and the health of many Californian's, creating environments that are linked to high chronic illnesses, like bronchitis, asthma, and even cancer. Fortunately, the Environmental Protection Agency just recently proposed carbon pollution protections, which will help keep communities safe and healthy and mitigate the effects of climate disruption. When finalized, these carbon pollution protections will limit the amount of green house gas emissions and most carbon pollution that dirty power plants can dump into our air. These new safeguards will clean up our air and address climate change, while also modernizing how we power our country and our economy, spurring innovation and creating thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in new investment, towards a cleaner greener future. I applaud the EPA for the new safeguards, and encourage them to finalize strong standards for both new and existing plants -- I hope other Californians will join me in doing the same.
