Job Seekers Flood CSUSB in Fall Job Expo

California State University of San Bernardino (CSUSB) hosted over 40 employers for their annual fall career expo. On Wednesday, Oct. 16, CSUSB students and alumni, along with members of the community, gathered at the events center at the Santos Manuel Student Union with hopes of potential employment. According to event coordinator Amber Williams, the career center began contacting employers during the summer and offered the opportunity to attend the expo. Employers presented various employment scenarios, such as full-time paid positions and internships. Talent Acquisition Manager at Enterprise Rent-A-Car Deborah Meredith discussed what Enterprise was looking for. “I’m looking for college graduates with at least a year’s worth of customer service/sales experience for an entry level sales and management training program,” said Meredith. Meredith went on to explain that Enterprise Rent-A-Car also offers summer internship programs for juniors advancing to their senior year. Furthermore, Verizon Wireless Training Coordinator David Pagel stated that Verizon has numerous openings around southern California for customer service representatives. Besides customer service, alternate employment opportunities were available through various employers, such as the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. CSUSB Student Sharon Paredes attended the expo with hopes of acquiring an internship and shared her thoughts on the subject matter. “I think it gives you basically all the resources you need,” said Paredes. Event coordinator Williams stated that many students lined up interviews the following day or even had them on the spot during the expo. According to Business Concierge Lucas Cuny of the Career Center at CSUSB, the fall career expo is one of four expos that CSUSB hosts throughout the year. The next Expo will be held Feb. 12, 2014.
