SAN BERNARDINO>> On Saturday, December 3, 2016 all 169 Stater Bros. Supermarkets, in addition to the Corporate Offices and Distribution Centers, observed a moment of silence to honor the memory of Stater Bros. Executive Chairman Jack H. Brown, who passed away on Nov. 13th 2016. At exactly 9 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, designated employees throughout the company asked all customers and employees to pause for 60 seconds to pay tribute to Brown. The moment of silence coincided with the commencement of a public ceremony celebrating Brown’s exemplary life. Brown’s “Celebration of Life” was held at Citizens Business Bank Arena, 4000 E. Ontario Center Pkwy., Ontario, CA 91764 on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. “Jack Brown was an inspiring mentor. He loved the grocery business, he truly cared about his people and his commitment to the communities Stater Bros. serves remains unparalleled,” stated Pete Van Helden, President and CEO of Stater Bros. Markets. “We will honor his memory by continuing the legacy he worked tirelessly to build,” Van Helden concluded. Brown served as the Chairman of the Board, President, Chief Executive Officer and most recently Executive Chairman of Stater Bros. Markets for over 35 years. Through Jack’s vision and leadership, Stater Bros. has become the largest privately owned Supermarket Chain in Southern California, currently operating 169 Supermarkets in seven counties with nearly 18,000 members of the Stater Bros. Supermarket “Family”. Brown served the Supermarket Industry for over 65 years. During the celebration of life ceremony, Helden opened the ceremony to welcome those in attendance. Dennis McIntyre, Executive Vice President of Marketing of Stater Bros. Markets; George Frahm, Executive Vice President of Administration/Distribution; Dave Harris, Execitive Vice President of Finance; Dan Meyer, Executive Vice President of Retail Operations; and Phillip J. Smith, Vice Chairman of Stater Bros. Holdings, spoke at the ceremony. A large classic Stater Bros. truck was outside the arena with American flags surrounding it and a banner that reads "Our Jack 1938-2016."
