Multilingual Recognition Program Celebrates With 28th Annual Awards

More than 60 individuals from 15 school districts and the University of California, Riverside, were honored for their work at the 28th annual Multilingual Recognition Dinner on Friday, May 1, at the Radisson Ontario Airport Hotel. The event annually recognizes and honors students, parents, para-educators, teachers, administrators and community members for their work with English learners. San Bernardino County Superintendent Ted Alejandre provided a welcome address. Eight senior students were recognized. They are Allan Zhai of Chino Valley Unified School District; Edgar Bermeo, Alma Munoz-Delgado and Bianca Rivas of Colton Joint Unified; Viridiana Murillo and Bryan Nava of Rialto Unified; Alex Mattson of San Bernardino City Unified; and Destiny Rodriguez of Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified. Teacher Rosalba Schessler of Redlands Unified was honored as the Countywide Recipient for her work with English learners. Following is a list of additional award recipients who were honored by their respective school districts or university at the event: * Apple Valley Unified: Brenda Abundez-Tuthill; Kathleen Diaz, Amalia McCormick and Deborah Rubio; * Chino Valley Unified: Mark Milsap, Claudia Olivares, Gabriela Rivas-Lopez and Sylvia Vargas; * Cucamonga: Zalia Avila, Maria Jimenez, Joyce Kosyra and Jody Leon; * Fontana Unified: Itzel Trujillo and Elidia Valencia de Cardenas; * Hesperia Unified: Cathy Brown, Elizabeth Flores and Dan Worley; * Mountain View: Jody Martin, Angela Moss, Amanda Simonian and Claudia Villavicencio; * Ontario-Montclair: Soledad Franco, Lourdes Mendoza, Arlene Rodriguez and Isabel Santos; * Redlands Unified: Kathy Jeide, Sylvia Morales and Addie Ramagnoli; * Rialto Unified: Mitzi Moreland, William Renderos and Laura Schneider; * Rim of the World Unified: Marie Devries, Veronica Pelayo and Sonia Ruiz; * San Bernardino City Unified: Lilia Cisneros-Felix, Dany Doueiri, Dolores Godoy and Sandra Rodriguez; * Snowline Joint Unified: Cindy Burleson, Tiffany Lopez, Lucy Silva and Erica Valle; * UC Riverside: Antonio Esparza and Marie Orillion; * Upland Unified: Martha Contreras, Denise Guerrero, Suzan Johns, Connie Nasca and Rosa Vasquez; * Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified: Tom Dreyer, Francisco Martinez and Sheryl Morales.
