“Streaming with Sola” Begins New Chapter for KVCR-TV

At halftime of the Aug. 27 San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) men’s soccer game a new program aired on KVCR-TV for the first time, “Streaming with Sola,” hosted by SBVC head athletic trainer Mike Sola. Sola, a 31 year veteran of the SBVC Athletics program as the head athletic trainer, has been a part of several international events including the 1984 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles and the 1994 World Cup. Sola is no stranger to KVCR-TV, from 1990 through 1992 he hosted a program titled “Sports Beat,” which was an in-studio production. Sola commented, saying that “The biggest difference between ‘Sports Beat’ and ‘Streaming with Sola’ is the fact that we can interview any guest from anywhere—guests don’t have to be in studio. Our guests can chat it up in the comfort of their own environment, which is a huge plus for us and when our guests are more comfortable, it makes for a better interview.” During halftime of the women’s and men’s soccer games as well as football games throughout the 2013 fall sports season, Sola will have guests ranging from coaches at SBVC to local sports celebrities, those who played in San Bernardino or at SBVC. Each interview is prerecorded with Sola housed at the KVCR studios and the guest using streaming video via Skype or FaceTime. At halftime of last Tuesday’s men’s soccer game, the interview with men’s soccer head coach Josh Brown was aired; during the women’s game, the interview with SBVC Director of Athletics David Rubio was aired. “When I approached Robert [Montalvo] and Michael [Cardenas] of the Inov8 Creative Group about this concept of interviewing guests from their own homes as opposed to inside the studio, they thought it was a great idea. Then with the cooperation of the SBVC/KVCR media academy they brainstormed a vision that still amazes me,” Sola said. “When you have an idea, then you see the wheels put in motion to get that idea going, then to have the vision become a reality, it’s something that we can all be proud of.” Future interviews airing at later dates include SBVC Sports Information Specialist Brian Sylva and Glenn Braggs, a member of the World Champion 1990 Cincinnati Reds. Sola is humbled by the entire experience of getting back into the KVCR-TV studios, and contends, “It’s not about me at all. This program is about giving the SBVC Athletic Department, our student athletes, and our school the positive exposure they deserve.”
