School District Honors Outstanding Students

The San Bernardino City Unified School District Board of Education honored 27 students with an Outstanding Student Award at the January Board meeting. Outstanding Student Award winners were recognized for achievement in academics, athletics, fine arts, or citizenship or for showing significant improvement in these areas. Highland-Pacific Elementary School Outstanding Students: Sixth grader Emma Lehmann excels in reading comprehension, writing, and math. She wants to become a lawyer or baker. If she decides to become an attorney, she wants to attend Harvard. Third grader Isaiah Perez is a natural leader and an excellent writer. He wants to attend U.C. Irvine and major in acting. He wants to win an Academy Award. Sixth grader Denzell Robison excels in all subjects and always stays on task. He wants to attend Stanford and earn a master’s degree in engineering or math. Hillside Elementary School Outstanding Students: Fifth grader Jeffrey Jones is talented in science and math, and he is an outstanding citizen. He wants to attend UCLA or USC. He wants to join the NBA and someday open a basketball training center for needy children. Fourth grader Kalyana Loomer is a top student in all subjects. She is a positive and motivated student. She wants to attend college and become a veterinarian so she can help suffering animals. Second grader Susan Estrada Jimenez is a great reader and loves learning. Her goal is to attend Cal State San Bernardino and become a lawyer because “lawyers tell the truth and they make a lot of money, too.” Inghram Elementary School Outstanding Students: Sixth grader Yailin Barajas shines as a writer. She is very detailed and expressive. She plans to attend college and become a zoologist because she is interested in saving animals and their habitats. Fifth grader Jackeline De Haro is good at reading and math. She wants to study medicine at Cal State San Bernardino and become a pediatrician. Fifth grader Angel Ramirez enjoys and excels at math. He doesn’t know where he wants to attend college, but he knows he wants to play professional soccer. Jones Elementary School Outstanding Students: Sixth grader Joshua Cuen continuously challenges himself to be the best he can be by focusing on his class work and making good choices. Joshua wants to attend college and become a doctor. Fourth grader Sahian Solares models good behavior for her classmates. She is creative and imaginative, which are perfect qualities for her career aspirations as a writer or fashion designer. Second grader Oman Valadez is a responsible and bright student. His top subjects are math and science. He wants to attend college and study biology. He also wants to be a firefighter. Kimbark Elementary School Outstanding Students: Sixth grader Kevin Luviano is an outstanding student, especially in math, writing, and social studies. His goal is to attend college and major in law so he can become a divorce attorney. Second grader Mason Rogers loves to be helpful and is very responsible. He is a role model for his classmates. His goal is to become an animal trainer, though he doesn’t know what college he wants to attend. Third grader Adam Schulte has impressive reading comprehension skills. He wants to attend college in California and eventually open a small restaurant that feeds healthy food to starving people. Marshall Elementary School Outstanding Students: Fifth grader Tejan Nelson is a critical thinker and collaborates well with other students. He plans to graduate from high school and become certified as a railroad engineer. First grader Jacqueline Nunez is an alternative bilingual education student. She reads at the 2nd-grade level. Her career goal is to become a principal. Third grader Angelina Zarate-Avila is a peer tutor. Her reading and writing skills are an example for other students. She wants to attend college and become a pediatrician. Mt. Vernon Elementary School Outstanding Students: Fifth grader Emily Aguilar currently reads at the seventh-grade level and has excellent classroom behavior. She wants to attend college and become a family doctor. First grader Marlinda Ferguson has a positive attitude towards school. She works hard to do her best and respects her teachers. She doesn’t know what college she wants to attend, but she thinks she has some time to decide. Fifth grader Alina Nieto is a creative writer and excellent reader. She wants to attend Stanford University, but doesn’t know what her major will be. North Park Elementary School Outstanding Students: Sixth grader Joseph Pratt is an innovative student and does well in math. These talents will serve him well as he pursues his goals of earning a degree in business or engineering and designing unusual cars. Sixth grader Catalina Ruiz is an expressive and creative student, as seen in her art and writing. She wants to attend Cal State San Bernardino, where she currently takes swimming and dance. Her goal is to become a veterinarian. Math comes easily to sixth grader Tyler James Schleis because he can do the problems in his head. He wants to major in math and language in college before applying to be an Air Force pilot. Norton Elementary School Outstanding Students: Kindergartener Hayle Perez is able to count, identify, and write numbers to 100. She is able to read more than 50 words. Hayle wants to attend college and become a baker to bake treats for her family and friends. Second grader Ariana Gasca shines as a writer. Her writing is always on topic and includes great details. She wants to attend Loma Linda University School of Dentistry and become a dentist. Sixth grader Anthony Ernesto Perez is full of self-determination, pride, and courage. He has developed a can-do attitude. He wants to major in science in college and someday work for NASA.
