SBVC Men’s Basketball coach Quincy Brewer passed the 200 win threshold last Saturday in a win over Victor Valley, as he secured his 201st career coaching victory with SBVC. Brewer has been at SBVC since 2007, first as an assistant Men’s Basketball coach under Gerry Wright and then taking over as the head coach beginning with the 2008-2009 season. Brewer commented on the milestone stating, “It is a gratifying accomplishment. It makes me appreciate my wife and the great players and assistant coaches I have been fortunate to have in my life. Without their tremendous sacrifices the success the program has sustained over the past 8 years would not have been possible. I am blessed to have them as a part of my life.” Winning seems to come naturally to Brewer, although not without a great deal of hard work, efforts which have brought success for him, his coaching staff and his student athletes. An accomplished basketball head coach in his own right at Riverside Ramona prior to arriving at SBVC, Brewer has received six “Coach of the Year” awards consisting of five Foothill Conference Coach of the Year awards and one California State Coach of the Year award. This season looks to be the best yet for SBVC Men’s Basketball as Brewer said, “We have a great group of kids. They show up every single day and work very hard. Again, I am fortunate to have student athletes who have made sacrifices to play for the SBVC Men’s Basketball Team. This team is unique because as a group they have established great chemistry despite being from different geographical areas throughout the country. This group has great size, speed, 3-point shooting and has improved significantly defensively throughout the season. Their talent level and effort is consistent with all of the previous SBVC Men’s Basketball Teams. They are a very fun group to work with.” SBVC Men’s Basketball has just started their Foothill Conference slate of games and with a record of 19-2, the team is ranked 3rd in the state.
