Shannon Stratton, Cal State San Bernardino (CSUSB) alumnus and a lecturer in CSUSB’s kinesiology department, has been appointed as interim executive director for the university’s Associated Students Inc., effective July 1. Stratton’s primary responsibility in his new post will be to ensure that ASI business affairs and interests comply with the state of California, the California State University Board of Trustees and university laws, regulations and policies. For the past several years, Stratton has served as program coordinator and assistant director for ASI. As assistant director, he advised student leaders on various aspects of leadership through group and individual mentoring with an emphasis on values-based leadership. He provided structure and support for programs within the corporation along with other student groups and departments at the university. Through working with ASI, Stratton is an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors and Club Allocation Budget Committee. The experience gave him the opportunity to work with various campus groups and within the community to give them service learning opportunities for students, enriching their college experiences. Stratton earned his bachelor’s degree from CSUSB in kinesiology in 1999. After completing his master’s degree in kinesiology at Pennsylvania State University, Stratton returned to San Bernardino. Strengthening his bond to CSUSB, he served as a part-time faculty member in the kinesiology department, teaching various courses, such as techniques in kinesiology instruction, water safety training, first aid, swimming, volleyball, backpacking, basketball, football, racquetball, weight training and even bowling.
