SAN BERNARDINO>> All eight comprehensive high schools in the Chaffey Joint Union High School District are among the best in the United States in preparing students for college and careers, according to the latest national rankings by US News and World Report.

Achieving Silver Medal status from the Chaffey District were: Los Osos High School, Rancho Cucamonga High School, Montclair High School, Etiwanda High School, Alta Loma High School and Colony High School. Chaffey High School and Ontario High School achieved Bronze Medal status.

Only 30 percent of high schools nationwide make the list, and only 13 percent achieve Silver Medal status. Six Chaffey District schools were awarded silver medals. In addition, Chaffey was highlighted as a “Featured District” in the publication.

“We love the recognition, but what this really speaks to is the unbending commitment of our teachers, staff and school board to preparing students for college and careers,” said Mathew Holton, Chaffey District Superintendent. “As a district team, we are constantly focused on improving student achievement and making sure every young adult who passes through our doors has opportunities after graduation.”

The US News Best High Schools rankings evaluate data on more than 21,500 public high schools to identify which schools are best at preparing students for college and careers. The rankings take into account a variety of measurements, including graduation rates, Advanced Placement (AP) test participation and results, proficiency in math and English, and college readiness.

“A high school education is imperative for success in both college and a career, and a school’s graduation rate is a key indicator of whether students are being effectively prepared for both paths,” said Anita Narayan, managing editor of Education at U.S. News. “The 2016 Best High Schools rankings provide students and parents with data-driven information on public schools to help them make better-informed decisions about their education.”

With 25,000 students, the Chaffey District is the second largest high school district in California. In addition to its eight comprehensive high schools, Chaffey has a continuation high school, an online high school, a community day school, an adult school and alternative programs.
