Senator Norma Torres partnered with Child Care Resource Center (CCRC) for her 12th Annual Book and Toy drive to benefit low income children and families living in San Bernardino County. There are over 73,000 children, just in San Bernardino County, currently living below the federal poverty level. “The great recession has impacted families in my district harder than most of California,” said Senator Norma Torres. “Many of these families are struggling just to make ends meet this holiday season.” On Dec. 4, Torres kicked off her annual drive at CCRC’s San Bernardino office, followed by story time at the local non-profit’s on site resource library. The Senator also distributed books to children at the event with donations from CCRC’s literacy campaign, What a Difference a BOOK Makes. "This year the Child Care Resource Center distributed 10,000 books and toys to children in programs across our service area. We wouldn't be able to do this without valuable community partners who understand the needs of families in their community, like Senator Norma Torres. We are so pleased to be able to partner with Senator Torres this year to make the holiday season a little brighter for children in San Bernardino,” said Donna Sneeringer, CCRC’s Director of Government Relations. Those interested in sponsoring the holiday book and toy drive in some way can participate by doing the following: o Donate new books and toys o Host a collection bin at your place of employment, civic group or church o Make a tax deductible donation
