'The Fly' Kicks Off Museum Insectival Weekend

SAN BERNARDINO>> Back in 1958, unsuspecting people watching "The Fly" in a dark movie theater got scared out of their wits. Now, the Inland Empire community is invited to relive the terror when the San Bernardino County Museum Association screens the original "The Fly" on Friday, Oct. 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. The pre-Halloween event is for adults only and will kick off Insectival weekend, a time when families can learn all about bugs. The evening also recognizes the San Bernardino County Museum’s insect collection, and features music, games, opportunity baskets and specialty drinks. Awards will be given for costumes and the Ritual Brewing Company, one of the event sponsors, will share some burbling “witches” brew. In "The Fly," starring Vincent Price, a science experiment involves a common house fly, a teleport machine, traveling atoms and a poor unsuspecting victim. Of course, it goes horribly wrong, exposing the hubris of mankind. It’s a buzz you won’t easily get out of your head. Insectival runs Saturday and Sunday, October 29 and 30 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Fly is free for Museum Association members and $10 per nonmember. Limited tickets are available so those interested in attending should call the Museum Association at (909) 798-8625 for details. Up next in the #FOMO Friday schedule is Maker Night, a special kind of gift show presented in conjunction with Arts Connection Network of San Bernardino on Friday, December 9 from 4 to 9 p.m. #FOMO Fridays, Insectival, and the County Museum’s other exciting events and exhibits reflect the effort by the Board of Supervisors to achieve the Countywide Vision by celebrating arts, culture, and education in the county, creating quality of life for residents and visitors. The San Bernardino County Museum is at 2024 Orange Tree Lane, at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands.

Photo Caption: Crime in San Bernardino has dropped by 30 percent or more throughout the city. One reason is that there are more officers on the streets. The Police Department’s goal is to have 350 sworn officers. Current full-time staffing is reported at 295 sworn officers and 156 professional staff.
