Gwendolyn Rodgers, a lifelong San Bernardino resident and active community leader, was appointed to the Board of Education of the San Bernardino City Unified School District with a unanimous vote Aug. 17. The Board of Education appointed Rodgers, who has three children in District schools, to a seat left vacant by the July resignation of Bobbie Perong. Rodgers was selected from a pool of 10 candidates. She will finish Perong’s remaining term, which ends Dec. 4. Voters in the District’s attendance boundaries will decide in November who will be elected to the four-year term. Rodgers will be sworn in at the Sept. 1 Board of Education meeting. Her community involvement includes sitting on the board of the Arrowhead United Way, Cajon High School Site Council, and City of San Bernardino Police Department's African American Community Advisory Committee. Rodgers has also participated in the District’s Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) subcommittee and is the president of the District’s African American Advisory Council, which represents parents and students. A reception welcoming Rodgers to the Board will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 4 p.m. in the Community Room, 777 North F Street, San Bernardino.
