Margaret L. Quiel, 85, passed away in San Bernardino, CA on July 28, 2015. She was a lifetime resident of San Bernardino. Margaret was born to a Danish family; the fourth of five girls of Knute and Margaret Jacobson. She attended local school and began working at a very early age at the 'Mile High Ice Cream Parlor.' She soon met the love of her life, Raymond Quiel, whom she married in 1948. She supported her husband in many ventures and in 1957 Margaret and Ray opened their own sign company, 'Electric Sign Service Co.' Two years later, Ray's brother Gordon joined the company and it became 'Quiel Bros Sign Company Inc.' Other ventures included co-ownership of Stardust Roller Rink (with Gordon) and then sole ownership of The Brass Key Restaurant. Margaret enjoyed time at their homes in Newport Beach and Palm Springs. She traveled with Ray to many meeting with organizations, including California Sign Association, National Sign Association, and World Sign Association. They also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe and Asia. Margaret and Ray were lifetime members of Arrowhead Country Club and The Elks Lodge. She is survived by Ray, her husband of 67 years. Also surviving her are her sons Larry (Tammy), Jerry (Mary) and Gary (Joanne) and her sister Juanita, along with her grandchildren, Ashley, Michael, Kristina, Kimberly and Erik and her seven great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at 5 to 7 p.m. with a funeral service on Monday, August 17, 2015 at 10 a.m., both at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, 1299 E. Highland Ave, San Bernardino, CA, 92404. A graveside service will follow at Montecito Memorial Park, 3520 E Washington St., Colton, CA. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Margaret's honor to Inland Empire Lighthouse for the Blind, 359 E. Parkcenter Circle South, San Bernardino, CA 92408.

A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.
