The Entrepreneurship Institute of San Bernardino (EIOSB), sponsored by the San Bernardino Community College (SBCCD), through its Economic Development and Corporate Training (EDCT) Division, has received a contribution from a new corporate sponsor, Pacific Mercantile Bank. The first EIOSB courses began Sept. 4. SBCCD Chancellor Bruce Baron said, “We welcome business and corporate support of what we consider to be a vital link between our educational offerings and the need of the Inland Empire to create new businesses and train new business owners. Those who complete the EIOSB program will come away with the skills necessary to improve their lives and the economy of our community.” The $2,500 contribution was presented on October 7 by Eugene E. Valdez, Senior Vice President and Regional Manager of the Inland Empire branch of Pacific Mercantile Bank. He told the students and instructors that “Pacific Mercantile Bank is proud to assist new businesses and new business creators—particularly those who have laid the groundwork for their own success by learning the necessary skills. The Entrepreneurship Institute is, we believe, the perfect place to receive that training.” Led by EDCT CEO Matthew Isaac, Ph.D.; Bruce Underwood, MBA, CFO/Partner of B2B Staffing Services, Inc. and San Bernardino Valley College business instructor; and Professor Michael Assumma, MBA, chair of the Business Department at San Bernardino Valley College, the Entrepreneurship Institute of San Bernardino offers a six course program (each course is three or four sessions) leading to a Certificate endorsed by the San Bernardino Community College District. At $395, the class is held two evenings per week at the EDCT, 114 S. Del Rosa Drive, in San Bernardino. The Entrepreneurship Institute is designed to provide the aspiring entrepreneur with the nuts and bolts of business ownership, business creation and business operation, using real-world terms and examples.” The Economic Development and Corporate Training (EDCT) division comprises the Professional Development Center (PDC), the Donald F. Averill Applied Technology Training Center (ATTC), the Center for the Advancement of Nanotechnology (NanoCenter), Logistics Technology Program, Office of the ICT/Digital Media Deputy Sector Navigator, the Entrepreneurship Institute of San Bernardino, and the On-line Education Center (Ed2Go). EDCT provides customized and off-the-shelf training programs and consulting services aimed at assisting the advancement of businesses in the Inland Empire.
