SAN BERNARDINO>> Free medical and dental screening services, health awareness and prevention activities, and other community resources were made available to the public during the 16th Annual Binational Health Fair Sunday, Oct. 23 at the Mexican Consulate, 293 North “D” Street in San Bernardino. The Department of Public Health worked together with the Mexican Consulate and the Ventanilla de Salud, or Health Window, a partnership between Loma Linda University School of Public Health, community organizations, government agencies and volunteers to continue to improve the health and well-being of the county’s underserved populations. The Binational Health Fair provided access to health-related services such as medical examinations, dental consultations and flu shots at no cost. Last year during the 2015 Binational Health Fair, 22 mammograms were performed. Of those, five mammogram results came back abnormal. All five clients were given follow-up care at no cost. This year’s Binational Health Fair honored the memory of Dr. Samuel Soret who devotedly served the Loma Linda University School of Public Health for 21 years, most recently as Associate Dean for Research and the Executive Director of the Center for Community Resilience. Further, he served as the Director for the Ventanilla de Salud program for the Mexican Consulate. The effort supports the countywide Vision of achieving wellness and improving community health through partnership and collaboration with multiple organizations.
