SAN BERNARDINO>> March 19 marked the 102 birthday of San Bernardino resident, Catalina Javier Jalandoni. Catalina Jalandoni has been a widow since 1995. She is mother to Condrado Jalandoni, Jr., Anna J. De Leon, Sylvia J. Farr (Deceased), Dr. Jane J. Capistrano, Samuel Jalandoni, and Esther J. Jalandoni. Jalandoni was born in the Philippines, but later immigrated to the U.S. in 1980. She has one sister, who is now 94. As a strong supporter of education, Jalandoni, who owns a farm, sold farm animals to put her children through school. She was adamant that they get a good education and grow up to have a good life. Through her efforts, her children were able to go on to become nurses, doctors, soldiers, and farmers. Jalandoni is also deeply religious. "She believed in the power of prayer," said one of her daughters. "She's a prayer warrior." When asked what hopes they have for their mother in the future, Jalandoni's children said, "We wish her good health and a happy life, and to stay beautiful. Because my mom is beautiful." Jalandoni is a grandmother to 12 grand children and 13 great grandchildren.
