Bank of America awarded Arrowhead United Way (AUW) a $15,000 grant to continue support of its Women’s Leadership Council (WLC) and Interview for Success program. With this money the WLC provides workshops to young ladies 16 to 24-years-old, providing them with the tools to be financially self-sufficient. This grant is a part of Bank of America’s focus on employment opportunities and preparing the under-employed and the next generation of workers with the skills needed for careers in the evolving workforce. This is the 6th year in a row Bank of America has funded this program, raising the total to $90,000. Bank of America not only supports the workshops financially, but also provides volunteer support as well. For example, Bank of America Community Relations Manager, Cathy Paredes, is a founding member of WLC and has been active in teaching local young women through WLC’s quarterly workshops. Additionally, bank employees volunteer their time to participate in the workshops by presenting on topics such as financial literacy, resume writing, mock-interviews, and how to dress for success in interviews. “Interview for Success provides at-risk young women seeking valuable training and education with access to tools that will help set them up for success,” said Parades. “It is programs like these that make an impact in our communities and the reason why Bank of America is happy to provide longtime support to Arrowhead United Way.” Arrowhead United Way and Bank of America have been Living United for many years to improve the lives of local community members. Currently, Bank of America is running its United Way Campaign through Nov. 20 and has helped support the mission of AUW through volunteering, funding, and recognition. In addition, Bank of America will be present at this year’s Association of Fundraising Professionals’ Philanthropy Award to help honor AUW’s WLC Chairperson, Dr. Carolyn Eggleston of California State University San Bernardino, who has been selected as the Philanthropist of the Year. Bank of America is one of the event sponsors and will help highlight the work Dr. Eggleston is doing with the WLC and within the community. Arrowhead United Way is a volunteer-driven organization that actively supports the growth of the community by focusing on education, income, and health. These focus areas address the underlying causes of the community’s needs in order to create lasting change. Arrowhead United Way was established in 1891 and is led by prominent respected community leaders; it is one of the oldest United Ways in the country.
