San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) Men’s Soccer forward Alex “Ghana” Turkson (Valley View High School, Moreno Valley) has signed a letter of intent with Cal Poly Pomona.
Turkson was named second team All-Foothill Conference this past fall, scoring six goals with two assists, including three game-winning goals. Turkson was also named to the 2012 second team All-Foothill Conference.
Under the tutelage of eighth-year coach Josh Brown, SBVC Men's Soccer ended the 2013 season going further than any team had gone in program history, hosting a Southern California Finals match. The team ended the regular season having won 13 games on their way to their first back-to-back-to-back ever Playoff berth. Coach Brown had six players named to the All-Conference team, finishing the season with an overall record of 13-4-6 and a 4-2-2 Foothill Conference record.
Entering the playoffs, number two seeded SBVC was given a first round bye and in the second round, hosted the number ten seeded Oxnard Condors (16-6-1), a team that was riding a 12 game winning streak and had shutout their last seven opponents, but all of that did not matter as SBVC blanked Oxnard, 2-0.
The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos play at Kellogg Field, and the team is led by second year coach, Yossi Raz. The Broncos finished the 2013 season 7-7-7 overall and 5-7-4 in Conference play, placing them in fifth place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association-South Division.
