community leaders, funders, and supporters who came together to honor AcademyGO’s 25-year legacy of strengthening the region’s nonprofit sector.

Guests enjoyed a program that combined reflection, appreciation, and insight into AcademyGO’s community impact. The afternoon included remarks from Executive Director Debbie A. Cannon, along with testimonials from graduates and partner organizations who have benefited from the organization’s programs. A delicious plated lunch was served during the program, creating space for connection and conversation among attendees.

Throughout the event, a commemorative slideshow played, showcasing the people, partnerships, and moments that have shaped AcademyGO since its founding in Barstow in 2000. As images flashed across the screen, from early trainings to recent collaborations, guests were reminded of just how far the organization has come. Over the past 25 years, AcademyGO has trained more than 2,500 nonprofit professionals and volunteers and helped organizations raise over $130 million to serve their communities and expand their missions.

As part of the program, AcademyGO presented awards to four outstanding community leaders and organizations, including Vici & George Nagel, AcademyGO founders; Darryl Evey, Executive Director, Family Assistance Program; Pastor Paul E. Jones, and the Tates family. Each honoree was recognized for their leadership, dedication, and lasting contributions to strengthening the nonprofit sector across the region.

And in a special moment of recognition, AcademyGO was honored with official proclamations from the County of Riverside, the County of San Bernardino, and California State Assembly Members, including Assemblywoman Leticia Castillo, Assemblymember Robert Garcia and Assemblymember John Harabedian, commending the organization’s 25 years of service and its transformative role in empowering local communities.

“The energy in the room was incredible,” said Debbie A. Cannon, Executive Director of AcademyGO. “This milestone belongs to every person who has partnered with us, learned with us, or supported our mission. Because of you, AcademyGO has helped nonprofits across the Inland Empire and beyond increase their capacity and impact.”

The luncheon’s theme, “Because of You,” resonated throughout the luncheon, reminding guests that AcademyGO’s success has always been rooted in collective impact. Through its Grantwriting Academy, Fundraising Academy, and ongoing peer learning and leadership development programs, AcademyGO continues to equip nonprofit leaders with the tools, skills, and relationships they need to thrive.

This milestone event was made possible through the generous support of sponsors including Edison International, US Bank, and CBL Wealth Management, whose commitment reflects the spirit of partnership that has fueled AcademyGO’s mission for a quarter of a century.
