SAN BERNARDINO>> In a recent game, the College of the Desert from Palm Desert, California had a 1-0 lead on the No. 5 team in the Nation until 90 seconds left in regulation, when San Bernardino Valley tied the game on a break-away shot. Sophomore starting goal keeper Britney Vargas added 19 more saves to her already impressive 2016 campaign, starting the afternoon as the No. 3 ranked goalie in California, now totaling 146 saves. Freshman forward Natalie Navarro, who had been on the injured reserve list since the last contest at San Bernardino Valley on Sept. 20, returned to action in a big way, scoring the lone Roadrunners goal at 51:12 in the second half. The last time Desert tied a game against San Bernardino Valley was during the 2003 season, where the score was a 0-0 draw, back when both teams were still in the Foothill Conference. The next home game for COD is Sophomore Day when they continue Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play hosting old Foothill Conference rival Mt. San Jacinto, on Friday, Nov. 4, with the game starting at 3 p.m.
