Outstanding Students Recognized

The San Bernardino City Unified School District Board of Education honored 12 students with an Outstanding Student Award at the December 9 Board meeting. Outstanding Student Award winners are recognized for achievement in academics, athletics, fine arts, or citizenship or for showing significant improvement in these areas. Students are encouraged to have hope for the future by thinking about their long-term educational and career goals. Lankershim Elementary School Outstanding Students: First-grader Ahris Mayorga-Ornelas is a model for staying fit and active. He has run a total of 150 miles during the school year, which puts him on track to pass his record of 250 miles last year. Ahris wants to stay active so he can play soccer in college. Sixth-grader Obeth Valdez never gives up, even when a task is difficult. He is a young man of conviction and does the right things for the right reasons. His goal is to study astronomy at CSUSB. Sixth-grader Roberto Robles is a teacher’s best friend. He helps new students learn school expectations, and he is always cheerful. He brings an interesting perspective to class discussions. Roberto’s goals are to attend college and play soccer. Lincoln Elementary School Outstanding Students: Fourth-grader Kimberly Arellano is a responsible and helpful young lady. According to her teacher, she is the type of student every teacher wants to teach. Kimberly plans to attend Cal State San Bernardino and study art education. Fourth-grader Genesis Orozco is a natural leader. She models good attendance and personal accountability. Genesis wants to attend UCLA and become a teacher. Fourth-grader Angel Samayoa is a well-rounded student. He is active in Lincoln’s music program and student council. Angel wants to study graphic design at CSUSB so he can work for the Walt Disney company. Lytle Creek Elementary School Outstanding Students: Sixth-grader Matthew Alcala is caring, well-behaved student. He does outstanding work in both language arts and math. Matthew knows he wants to attend college, but he has not decided which one to attend. Sixth-grader Michael De La Cruz is an eager learner and an avid reader. He plays the saxophone and hopes to become a professional musician one day. Sixth-grader Susan Ortiz is committed to her education. She works hard to accomplish her goals and is successful in all her academic endeavors. She wants to become a doctor. Monterey Elementary School Outstanding Students: Second-grader Joshua González-Ortiz is a hard-working and responsible student. He also shows concern for the safety and well being of others. Joshua wants to become a doctor. First-grader Elijah Kilgore is highly motivated and shows great potential. He is a quick learner who masters new math concepts easily. Elijah plans to become a police officer. Fifth-grader Eduardo Lara demonstrates exemplary citizenship. He is a hard worker and is always willing to help others. Eduardo wants to attend college and become a police officer.
