Arrowhead Regional Medical Center’s (ARMC) resident physicians gathered Friday, May 27, 2016, for the hospital’s 11th Annual Research Day to present their research findings to the hospital administration and staff members, as well as to the public. Original research abstracts, case reports and educational exhibits were on display with the authors present to answer questions and discuss their projects. Residents from every one of the hospital’s training programs participated in the event. There are 55 submissions spanning case reports, (which highlight unusual presentations of unique cases of clinical interest), to prospective controlled trials seeking to determine the effectiveness of novel interventions to benefit patient care. Research Day provides an opportunity for healthcare professionals to share their research and knowledge among one another, and for community citizens to visit the hospital to learn about important health topics. “The compelling findings resulting from these studies are a wonderful way to share information as well as make a difference in shaping the future of medicine,” said Dr. David Lanum, Chairman of Family Medicine at ARMC. “Participating in research is also an excellent training tool, enabling our resident physicians to develop and participate in innovations that improve our patient’s care.” A panel of thirteen judges evaluated the presentations, with monetary prizes awarded to the authors of the top three submissions determined to be of the highest clinical merit. ARMC is a university-affiliated teaching health care facility with 10 residency programs and more than 100 residents and regularly showcases work done by its resident physicians to help increase participation in regional research efforts.
