Longtime law enforcement veteran Nina Jamsen has been named chief of police and director of public safety at Cal State San Bernardino. Jamsen will oversee university police and parking and transportation services. She replaces David Keetle, who served as interim chief of police and director of public safety since January 2015. Jamsen begins her duties at CSUSB on Aug. 31. Jamsen brings more than 27 years of law enforcement leadership to CSUSB, serving in the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department since 1988. For the past four years, Jamsen has assumed the duties of sheriff’s captain with overall responsibility for the Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center, including responsibility for nearly 200 employees and 1,500 inmates. During her tenure at Glen Helen, Jamsen planned and completed a facility master plan and initiated a successful facility security overhaul, including fencing, technology, policy and procedural changes and training. Prior to her current post, Jamsen was a sheriff’s lieutenant from 2006-2012 in multiple capacities, including executive officer at the Sheriff’s Regional Training Center. She was also director of the Basic Academy, second in command at Central Patrol Station, police chief for the cities of Loma Linda and Grand Terrace, and law enforcement liaison with the San Manuel Indian Reservation. She served as a sheriff’s sergeant from 1997-2006. Jamsen has also held significant regional leadership roles in areas including crisis intervention, mental health intervention and support, sexual assault response and education, police officer training and development, and emergency preparedness. She earned a B.S. in administration of criminal justice from Mountain State University in Beckley, West Virginia, and a teaching credential in law enforcement from CSUSB. The CSUSB Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency that provides service and protection on a 24/7/365 basis. The department is responsible for the 471-acre north San Bernardino campus and also for the surrounding area including outlying residential villages, canyon and foothills. Set in the foothills of the beautiful San Bernardino Mountains, CSUSB is a preeminent center of intellectual and cultural activity in inland Southern California. Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2015, CSUSB serves more than 20,000 students each year and graduates about 4,000 students annually. CSUSB is listed among the best colleges and universities in the western United States, according to The Princeton Review, Forbes and U.S. News and World Report.
