A homicide linked to a possible family dispute led to the death of Danny Harring, 62 of San Bernardino, and a gunshot wound to the deceased victim's sister on June 6, 2017. At approximately 7:46 p.m., the San Bernardino Police Department received a 911 call regarding a shooting in the 1400 block of N. Grand Street.

The caller indicated that two victims had been shot at the location. Officers responded to the location and found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Harring died at the scene. The second victim, a 64-year old resident of San Bernardino, was transported to a local hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening gunshot wounds.

The suspect was identified as the victim’s nephew, Dwayne Butler, 36 of San Bernardino. Several hours after the shooting, Butler turned himself in at the Hemet Police Station. Butler was arrested for PC 187 (Homicide) and PC 664/187 (Attempted Homicide). The motive for the shooting is believed to be the result of a family dispute.
