Community Hospital of San Bernardino Now Offers Groundbreaking 3D Technology for Early Detection of Breast Cancer

Dignity Health - Community Hospital of San Bernardino is proud to offer 3D Mammography (also known as Tomosynthesis), the most advanced and modern screening tool for the early detection of breast cancer. The 3D technology allows radiologists to see breast tissue more precisely than regular 2D machines, which means cancers are diagnosed sooner.

In partnership with Hologic Inc, our latest 3D mammography allows physicians to view each breast tissue layer individually,  giving a more precise picture of your breast health. Benefits of 3D mammography include:

-     41% increase in the detection of invasive breast cancers

-     40% decrease in false-positive recalls

-     Detection of cancer 15 months earlier

-     Increased comfort

-     Improved imaging

During the exam, the x-ray arm moves in a small arc over your breast and acquires multiple low-dose images, which are reconstructed into 3D images. Hologic’s 3D mammography exam has been clinically proven to detect 20 to 65 percent more invasive cancers and reduce callbacks by up to 40 percent. The new 3D Tomo machine is just another amazing tool for our Imaging Department, which is accredited by the American College of Radiology for Mammography.

"We are so proud to offer the women and men in our community this ground-breaking, superior imaging technology”, states June Collison, President, and CEO of Community Hospital of San Bernardino. “We believe that our 3D tomo has the potential to change how screening and diagnostic mammography is performed, and over time will prove invaluable for the soonest possible detection of breast cancer".
