Jose Martinez joins East Valley Water District (District) Tuesday, Oct. 13, as the new Assistant General Manager. Mr. Martinez has more than 20 years of experience in the water industry, having served customers from both the field and office environments. “Jose was selected from a candidate pool of more than 50 applicants,” said John Mura General Manager/CEO. “He stood out among his peers as a leader with an ability to motivate staff, communicate effectively and represent the District with integrity.” In the position of Assistant General Manager, Mr. Martinez will assist the General Manager/CEO; implement and promote District program goals and objectives, oversee departmental work plans, make recommendations for water and sewer system improvements, and confirm effective cost and staffing controls are applied. “I look forward to serving the residents of Highland and San Bernardino as Assistant General Manager,” said Mr. Martinez. “My experience lends itself to the District’s commitment of giving back to the community and balancing the delivery of reliable water and sewer services through conservation and education efforts.” Mr. Martinez received a Master’s degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts and Environmental Biology from the University of La Verne. He began his career at the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and most recently held the position of Administrative Services Manager at the Walnut Valley Water District. He is also a part time water conservation and water resources instructor at Citrus College in Glendora. Mr. Martinez and his wife, Yanina, have two children.
