Election Results The night of February 4, 2014 may go down in San Bernardino history as a historic election. After several long months of campaigning that began in 2013, the final election results showed that the citizens have chosen a new mayor, Carey Davis, beating his challenger Wendy McCammack. Mayoral elect Davis garnered 6,211 votes (56%) over McCammack’s 4,881 (44%) votes. In the city council races, Fred Shorett swept Anthony Jones in a landslide victory with 1,913 votes (66%) over his opponent’s 972 votes (33%), and Henry Nickel won in the 5th ward, accumulating 886 votes (38%) over several of his challengers. Low Voter Turn Out Altered the Night The low voter turnout had huge ramifications on the election night reporting by the San Bernardino County Registrar’s Office, and on the election night parties. Typically, election results are updated at 8:15 p.m., 10 p.m., and 12 a.m., leaving election night party supporters up late awaiting the results. However, due to voter apathy, the final unofficial election results were reported very early at 9:05 p.m. Only 11,175 out of 77,588 registered citizens voted, representing a 14.4% voter turnout.
