Free Summer Concert Series at CSUSB Begins Again

For more than 25 years, Cal State San Bernardino has held an annual series of free outdoor concerts each Wednesday night during the summer. Since its inception, over 70,000 listeners have enjoyed more than 100 acts. To kick off the 2013 season of Summer Wednesdays concerts, the Latin Society will be performing for the band’s 26th consecutive year at the university on July 3. Led by bassist Moe Estevene, the 14-member band is in its 37th year of performing in the Inland Empire and Southern California. Boasting a big-band Latin sound that inspires audiences to get up and dance, the wildly popular group is expected to play tunes such as “Oye Como Va,” “Hot, Hot, Hot” and “Guantanamera.” Admission to Summer Wednesdays concert series is always free, along with complimentary parking in Lot D. Each show will take place in Cal State University San Bernardino’s Lower Commons Plaza, starting at 7 p.m. and usually concluding about 9 p.m. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring family and friends of all ages, and a love of music, to enjoy the fun atmosphere for the entire evening. Concession stands will be at the event and concert-goers are welcome to bring their own picnic baskets, lawn chairs, and blankets. Along with the entertainment, the Latin Society is joining with the Latino Baseball History Project at Cal State San Bernardino’s Pfau Library to promote the preservation of information, records and personal histories about the important cultural role baseball had in the Inland Empire Latino community from the 1920s through the 1970s. The Latino Baseball History Project will set up an information booth on campus at the commons to display some of its work and answer questions about the project. Also performing during the Summer Wednesdays series will be Best of Everything Band on July 10, Powerflex 5 on July 17, Desperado playing July 24, and the winners of the Howlin’ Yote band competition on July 31.
