Deputy & Father of Two Killed in Pursuit Collision

Tragedy struck in Victorville on Monday March 17 2025 when a San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy lost his life in a devastating traffic collision. The incident occurred following a pursuit of a stolen vehicle, underscoring the dangers law enforcement officers face in the line of duty.

The pursuit began as authorities responded to reports of a stolen vehicle in the Victorville area. During the chase, the suspect allegedly engaged law enforcement in a high-speed pursuit, weaving through traffic in a reckless manner.

Tragically, during the pursuit, a collision occurred that resulted in fatal injuries to the deputy involved. The deputy was 36 year old Deputy Hector Cuevas Jr.

Upon being apprehended by law enforcement, the suspect was arrested on charges of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and evading arrest. This incident has sparked profound grief and mourning within the law enforcement community and among local residents in Victorville.

The community has expressed condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the fallen deputy, highlighting the deputy’s dedication and service to protecting the community. The sheriff emphasized the inherent risks faced by law enforcement officers daily, as they strive to uphold public safety and enforce the law.

The loss of the deputy has prompted an outpouring of support from across San Bernardino County and beyond, with many expressing gratitude for the deputy’s service and mourning the tragic loss of life in the line of duty.
