Outstanding Students and Adults Honored at San Bernardino Schools

Riley, Roosevelt and Vermont Elementary Schools presented the Outstanding Student, Parent, and Employee Awards in earlier this year. Each of the honorees contributes to the District’s goals of maintaining safe, respectful, and welcoming environments and high expectations for student and staff performance. The following are the award recipients from Riley Elementary School, located at 1266 North G St in San Bernardino, under Principal Aldo Ramirez: Saulo Chavarria is an Outstanding Student Award winner from Amanda Lower’s class at Roosevelt Elementary School. He excels in all subject areas, including music. Saulo played the national anthem at Riley’s promotion ceremony. His success in academics and the arts comes from his hard work and his love of school. Saulo plans to attend college and become a marine biologist. As a first grader, Omar Hernandez demonstrated the type of behavior and academic success that will take him far in school. He scored at the advanced level on both math and English/language arts standardized tests. He reads more than 60 words per minute and knows more than 300 words that frequently appear in everyday writing. Omar is also very kind, making him a model student and an Outstanding Student Award winner. Brianna Medina was the vice president of her third-grade class and the winner of the Outstanding Student Award. She sets a good example for her peers by attending school every day and completing all of her homework assignments. Brianna mastered English and has transitioned from an English language learner to a fluent English speaker. She is also skilled at math, having memorized her multiplication tables through 12. Diane Heine is an Outstanding Parent Award winner. She is an asset to the entire Riley Elementary community. Her patience and dedication to helping students are an inspiration to the staff. Her devotion to her daughter provides an excellent example for students and parents, especially since Heine’s daughter is not a Riley student but a Riley Elementary teacher. Violet Preszler is a curriculum clerk and an Outstanding Classified Employee. Her co-workers appreciate her positive attitude, kind heart, and dedication to her job. Riley students benefit from her organized and timely work, which makes it possible for each student to have all the classroom materials. Second-grade teacher Christine Perry-Hill is Riley’s Outstanding Certificated Employee. She is an enthusiastic teacher who builds lasting relationships with her students and their parents. She truly cares about all Riley students. As the CAPS lead teacher, she has helped create an educational and exciting after-school program that benefits hundreds of Riley students every year.
