SAN BERNARDINO >> On August 23, 2002, at approximately 7:09 p.m., Patrick Bailey was shot and killed on the 14600 block of Hunter Street in Fontana. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Homicide Detail conducted the investigation. In 2003, after an exhaustive investigation, the case remained unsolved.

On March 1, 2017, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Homicide Cold Case Investigators re-opened the case and interviewed a witness. The witness identified Julian Morales as the suspect who shot and killed Bailey. After conducting the witness interview, further investigative follow-up was conducted. Morales was positively identified as the shooter and Andrew Rodriguez was identified as being in the green vehicle with Morales at the time of the incident. A third Hispanic male (Suspect #3), inside the vehicle with Morales, remains unidentified at this time. Investigators have leads on Suspect #3 and urge other witnesses to come forward.

Morales died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on December 5, 2003. Rodriguez died as a result of medical conditions on November 19, 2004.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is urged to contact Investigator Gerrit Tesselaar or Sergeant Greg Myler, Homicide Detail (909) 387-3589.
